It’s telling how Antwerp-based artist Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven‘s mixed media work of paint, pastels and computer art stems from the happy jumble tumble of her own artistic wonderland. Her studio is more so a space that over time has accumulated the quirky objects that spin the story of her life – up close one finds minsy drawings in unsuspected corners, leaves propped on picture frames, photographs stuck between the pages of books, a box of shells, and little toy figurines pushed in the cracks in the wall. Unsurprisingly a home can often times be the greatest pool of inspiration. With her grand AMVK exhibition set to take over M HKA starting tomorrow, here’s a chance to look behind the curtains.
