Following hot on the heels of Dalai Lama Renaissance and The Lizzies, today’s Word-exclusive mix tape comes courtesy of Belgian buzz blogger Disco Naïveté, who’s just started contributing to these pages with a bi-monthly music column on the newest and freshest tunes out there – read his first pick of three up-and-comers here. Blending his Disco Naïvete-flavoured picks of the best new independent music with some personal all-time favourites of his, the mix will delight as much as it will surprise.
Can you describe your DJ act/band in a few words?
Disco Naïveté is a Belgian buzzblog – delivering new, independent music on a daily basis, with everything from rising acts to well-established artists and bands.
Can you describe the mix in a few words?
The mix holds some of the best new music mixed with some favourite songs of mine from the past couple of years. They represent “the sound of Disco Naïveté”, a blend of songs you’ll find on the blog.
Can you tell us about the exclusive track on the mix?
There’s no exclusive track on the mixtape, but I did record and autotune my voice for it, which is unique – and I guess exclusive in that way. It’s really fun, actually, everyone should autotune their own voice sometime.
When and where did you record the mix?
I recorded it on a boring Friday evening – I had been studying all day and really needed something fun to focus on. You know that feeling where you really long for a good party? That’s exactly the feeling I had when I pressed “play” to get the first track started. I treated myself to a glass of wine and on it went… One of the best parties behind my desk I’ve ever had (and oh boy, I have those quite often – maybe too often). You know, if I ever heard any of these songs on an actual party I’d go nuts. Nuts, I tell you.
What‘s your favourite track on it?
I think that would be Kraftwerk‘s Computerliebe. I recently re-discovered it (read: got really obsessed with Kraftwerk) and that one is pure gold. I wish I had been born in the 80’s and experienced the impact Kraftwerk had on electronic music. I would’ve have been a fanboy, for sure.
What do you have coming up in the next few weeks?
I’ve got a few busy weeks ahead of me, lots of stuff to do for school – but of course I’ll take the time to search the web for the best new music every day. We’re presenting some nights at Les Nuits Botanique next month – that’s going to be fun (you can even win some tickets). I’m also working on a new, summer-themed compiliation, which should be out soon.
