Eighteen year old brusseler (?) Wulfy Benzo came to the ears of our office as unexpected. Not that there’s a typical Brussels sound, but, well, this one really sounds like he’s from nowhere, or maybe from the distant outskirts of the internet we are not sure we want to visit. When we asked which moment was the most suitable to listen the mix, we were not disappointed by the answer: “I want people to listen to it while they are dying. I want people to shed a tear and, instead of thinking of all their loved ones and the people that truly mattered in their life, I want them to think of me. I want them to think of Wulfy while they exhale their last breath. And I want them to turn up to my music right before their body shuts down.” We couldn’t really wait until being on our deathbed to put an ear on this one (sorry) and being honest, we wish we’ll survive a little more, at least to see where this cheeky Brussels kid is going to bring his sound.
Can you describe yourself in a few words? Your sound, approach to making music, your influences, how it all started, etc…
Imagine thousands of decaying rodent pelses being rinsed and prepared for battle. Warhammers are being sharpened. Everyone is slashin’ Beaver Buzz in preparation of total doom. There is war coming for I will feed on raw flesh of victory.
How did you first start making music? How does it fit into your life?
It most definitely does not fit into my life, it’s just something that has taken over I guess. Good taste in music is privilege, do not take it for granted.
Is music a full-time thing for you at the moment? If not, what are your other occupations?
I would say my full time occupation is being a creative visionary. I’m also a writer, visual artist, art programmer etc etc. I’m in my 5th year of high school, which is an amazing experience. I am enjoying every minute of it. However, I will not rest until I have concurred Frieze d/e.
Can you describe the mix in a few words? What is its overriding influence, where would it best be enjoyed, what makes it special?
I want people to listen to it while they are dying. I want people to shed a tear and, instead of thinking of all their loved ones and the people that truly mattered in their life, I want them to think of me. I want them to think of Wulfy while they exhale their last breath. And I want them to turn up to my music right before their body shuts down.
Can you tell us about the exclusive track on the mix?
It is a remix of ‘Signs of Love Makin’ by Tyrese, I made it not too long ago. It is still a prototype track but definitely strong enough to include.
Why did you choose to include this one?
It is the promotional track of my new energy drink; “Poon Sip Energy.” Previously consumed by Ne-Yo, Kanye West & Aaliyah (R.I.P.)
When and where did you record it? Describe the room, the furniture, the walls, the view from the room, the neighbourhood, the weather at the time, etc…
Predator scorpions, dimmed in the darkness with their fluorescent, white, glossy skin are shredding tiny locusts and cicada’s to pieces. The rest of the setting I do not wish to disclose.
What’s your favourite track on the mix?
The sixth track.
What are your top 3 albums of the year so far and why?
I don’t really listen to albums, but I liked Drake’s new album, and even then, I still thought my own mixtape was waaay better.
What do you have coming up in the next few weeks?
My new mixtape DoggleFox dropped a few weeks ago, which you can buy for 1000$ here . I am also working on some beats I made for CeddyBu (R.I.P.) before he died about 1.5 years ago. Oh, and I’m buying myself a silver Honda car!facebook.com/wulfybenzo wulfybenzo.bandcamp.com/
