“It’s what you’d call voodoo techno : melancholic, hypnotic and beat driven music that submerges you like a wave and takes you to another dimension.” And that there’s how Brussels-based producers and DJs Pattrn and Hawkan, of musicians collective FTRSND, described this exclusive mix they’ve just recorded for us.
Can you describe yourself in a few words? Your sound, approach to making music, your influences, how it all started?
We both have quite a different personal story but what matters is that we enjoy similar music and it has a tremendous space in our lives as producers, djs, party promoters and music enthusiasts.
Can you describe the mix in a few words? What is its overriding influence, where would it best be enjoyed, what makes it special?
This mix presents our vision of hypnotic, sensual and dark electronic music. You can hear some artists we already booked and some labels we love like Prologue, Raster-noton, Semantica, Delsin,…
We believe the best condition to listen to this is in your car by night (driving in the city’s tunnels) and of course while warming up to go out ;)
When and where did you record it?
This set was recorded at FTRSND headquarters in the center of Brussels while looking at people passing by in Rue des Pierres. It was the fall of the day, sun had already gone down a little. By the end of the set it was totally dark outside,… perfect mood with same tamed lights inside the office, drinking a glass of red wine and eating some peanuts and kroepoek from the night shop next to the place.
What’s your favourite track on the mix?
Hawkan: Red Embers by Room 506.
Pattrn: The Fifth Planet by Artefakt
What are your top 3 albums of 2015 and why?
Kangding Ray – Cory Arcane
Polar Inertia – Kinematic Optics
Abdulla Rashim – A shell of speed.
This is exactly the kind of music we love at the moment… it’s that easy.
What do you have coming up in the next few weeks?
Upcoming event is on 5th February at Fuse with Kandging Ray live audio visual, Cio d’Or, Palsembleu (live) and Pattrn. We have some others events under the hood but it’s too soon to speak about them.
