We get an introduction to the upcoming Bozar Electronic Arts Festival in the shape of an exclusive mix recorded by Pierre De Muelenaere, co-curator together with Marc Jacobs of the 10-day festival now in its fifth edition.
Can you describe yourself in a few words?
Since 2010, I work as a freelance curator for Bozar. Together with Marc Jacobs, we’ve created, curated and developped the “Bozar Electronic Department” which includes the Bozar Electronic Arts Festival (the fifth edition of which takes place in 2016), the Bozar Nights and, since last year, the “Bozar Electronic Series”.
What’s your favourite track on the mix?
One of my favourite is “No Dreams” by Noveller. The track was released on Important Records in 2013. It is a climax of her work based on effect-heavy guitar soundscapes creating melancholic and beautiful music.
What are your top 3 albums of the year so far and why?
“Love Streams” by Tim Hecker, released in April on 4AD, has slowly become one of my favourite albums of 2016 so far. We are extremely happy to welcome him again on stage, this year in the great Henry Leboeuf Room. I’d add Roly Porter’s “Third Law” LP released early 2016 on Tri Angle. “Dark Energy” by Jlin. The LP clearly takes from footwork, the Chicago-borne genre, but it is also a solid personal work, both sophisticated and spontaneous, with a unique use of rhythm and sampling.
What do you have coming up in the next few weeks?
BEAF takes place from 22nd September to 2nd October. Check the program online and save the date now for the upcoming Bozar Night on 10th November with Junior Boys, Amnesia Scanner, Ash Koosha, Dasha Rush, Helena Hauf, Hiele and more.
