In their previous lives, Tauba and Louise, the twenty-somethings behind red hot DJ duo The Lizzies, were community managers for the Fuse and VJ for MTV respectively. After having honed their dance floor skills organising nights such as La Boum and Les Enfants Perdus at The Wood in Brussels, they decided to join forces and created The Lizzies. An eclectic and house-pumping pair, the girls distinguish themselves through their access-all-areas selections and distinct visual universe. For their own productions though, they start where Miss Kittin and The Hacker left off, their sexy vocal takes backed up by hard-edged electro beats – expect to hear more from them in the near future. Listen to their Word-exclusive mix below, and read our interview with the girls just after.

Can you describe the mix in a few words?

We’re passionate about different kinds of music, we like to party and make people dance. We’ve always loved to sing, and recently we created our own tracks, bringing a personal touch to house, electro and new wave sounds. We like the idea of associating a visual universe with poetic and cosmic music, influenced by eighties French wave. It’s eclectic, dynamic and varied music, a mix of electro house and techno with a touch of pop. We didn’t want to limit ourselves to one style of music, we like to stay open-minded.

Can you tell us about the exclusive track on the mix?

This track is a re-edit of “Beds are burning” by Midnight Oil. Actually Klem Logan made this edit without our knowledge. When we heard it for the first time we completely went crazy and fell in love with it. As it was a Friday, we named the track after this glorious day.

When and where did you record the mix?

Last week in our studio, where we always come together to sing whenever we have the opportunity.

What’s your favourite track on it?

Louise: The Knife. It’s always been my fetish song, a inventive and subtle track for me.

Tauba : I’m lonely by Hollis Monreau. Because I’m really into vocal house and like the original.

What do you have coming up in the next few weeks?
