Visionquest and The Nothing Special at fabric

Fabric is London’s seminal club. Despite the tourists and other not-so-dedicated party people who end up here every weekend, it still plays host to some of the capital’s best nights and strongest line-ups. This weekend is no exception, with the much-lauded house and techno quartet Visionquest (Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson, Shaun Reeves and Lee Curtiss) taking charge of the Main Room. Their Canadian protégés Footprintz perform live, presumably to showcase tracks from their forthcoming album. In Room 2 Craig Richards is joined by Appleblim, Addison Groove (live) and Trevino, while Room 3 is just as rockin’ with Terry Francis, Clockwork and Eric Volta. An essential Saturday night out.

The Ruins of Detroit

French duo Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre present a collection of photographs taken in the crumbling metropolis that is Motor City, or Detroit as it’s better known. The twosome used a custom-built camera and long exposure to paint a stark picture of the city following the drawn-out collapse of its motor industry. The clarity of the photographs combined with the washed-out feel gives an eerie feeling to a lot of the images. Previously exhibited in Ville Fertile, Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine, Paris, and in Metropolis, Noorderlicht Photofestival, Groningen, this is their first trip to the UK.

Simple Minds

Get back into the 80s with the Scottish rock band by heading to Camden’s excellent Roundhouse venue. Credible once more, the group (led by Jim Kerr) are back touring the UK. If you’re not sure who they are, try John Hughes’ The Breakfast Club for reference –of which their famous Don’t You (Forget About Me) was the soundtrack. Ok so they’re not the latest or the hottest or the up-and-comingest band on the scene, but they’re likely to lend three decades of experience to handing you a very entertaining evening on a plate. Where’s your gratitude?
