What would be your two-minute elevator pitch?

Belga & Co was founded in Antwerp in 2015 as a coffee roastery but was quickly complimented with coffee bars located in the heart of Europe. We focus on high-quality coffee, food and drinks at fair prices. Besides our roastery and bars, we also offer our B2B clients a “Belga & Co experience”: we provide them with the same level of quality and dedication for the best product and price all over Belgium. We achieve this by working closely with local producers, our most important partners. However, we’ve also recently started rolling out the 3P principle – people, planet, profit. With this in mind, we’re preparing our business for the challenges of the near future.

We believe that coffee is more than just a drink; it’s about a moment. It’s the moment where you take the time to clear your mind and put all your worries aside. Together with our staff, we want to make the experience of drinking great coffee simple and unpretentious. From the technique to the product, we want it to be all accessible and uncomplicated for everyone.

List three factors that make Brussels’ entrepreneurship landscape unique.

  • Brussels’ population is very international and made up of different cultures, thanks to its central location in Europe.
  • Its people are creative and openminded.
  • Its multicultural aspect: every neighbourhood is different.

What are the three biggest challenges you faced when starting up your business?

  • Finding the right staff and suppliers to work with.
  • Taking the risk to open a business without knowing if our product would work.
  • Offering high-quality, yet affordable coffee and food.

How did you benefit from hub.brussels’ expertise in the conception of your business?

hub.brussels helped us find the location for our second shop, taking part in our visits and initial contacts with landlords as well as the municipality. They keep us updated on any funding programme the city has to offer to a business like ours, and offer great follow-ups concerning the launch of a new business of project – before and after.

List a piece of advice you would give to the budding entrepreneur.

Be yourself. Believe in your product. Keep it simple. Take good care of your clients but also most certainly of your staff. Every stakeholder plays an important role in your business.
