The love movement

Love comes in many shapes and forms, and has innumerable different faces. Spurred on by tomorrow's Valentine's Day celebrations, we asked our readers a couple of weeks ago to send us a photograph that, to them, illustrates the word 'love'. Here are our favourites, accompanied in some cases with photographers' explanations.

  • 5/13 — Photography Joke De Wilde
  • 6/13 — Hendrik Wittock: This picture portrays the love you can only have with someone after years of knowing each other, a supporting, not oppressing love, the love you look for in relationships, but can only find in friendship. Still, there is a feeling of inequality in this picture, one leaning on the supporting other, and both looking away, one at herself, the other in the void. Isn't it so, that love, when too close, is overlooked?
  • 7/13 — Merel 't Hart: 'Wild Love'
  • 8/13 — Stien Bekaert: 'Love is...'
  • 9/13 — Melika Ngombe: 'This is one of my closest friends, and for me she is a personification of a movement that grows on love.'
  • 10/13 — Photography Veerle Frissen
  • 11/13 — Joanna Mrozek: 'This was a love confession to my boyfriend shot during my holidays in Vietnam.'
  • 12/13 — Memymom: 'The things we do for love'
