1. Thursday 26th May to Sunday 29th May: 15 Years of Pink Screens @ Cinéma Nova, Aventure and Barlok, Brussels

Queer film collective Genres d’à Côté’s birthday extravaganza fills the weekend with must-see unreleased films, and an exuberant Pink Night at Barlok on Saturday the 28th.

2. Thursday 26th May: Les fausses dents du prince @ Deborah Bowmann, Brussels

St-Gilles project space Deborah Bowmann’s (which we covered in our Demand issue) latest exhibition features works by After Howl, Stéphane Barbier-Bouvet, Martin Belou Daniel Dewar & Grégory Gicquel, Cyril Debon, Romain Juan, Hector Latrille et Margaux Schwarz.

3. Thursday 26th May: Jessica contre les vampires @ Island, Brussels

Artist-run gallery Island is known to represent burgeoning artists, and Patrick Brichard is no exception. Recently graduated from La Cambre, his paintings can be admired from 26th May until 12th June.

4. Friday 27th May: The vinyl frontier @ A-Tower, Antwerp

The Violent Husbands, completely free, at Antwerp’s most infamous skyscraper. The second in a series of intimate live sessions hosted by Redbull Elektropedia’s Vinyl Frontier.

5. Friday 27th May: A.Brehme, Walrus, Konrad @ Barak Bara, Brussels

Brussels nightlife frontrunners Walrus (check out his favourite Belgian releases here), A.Brehme, Different Fountains (who recorded an exclusive mix for us) and Dekeyser join forces for a night of nonconformist electronica in a former, and now abandoned, fashion house.

6. Friday 27th May: Tradition Doesn’t Graduate @ Komplot

Curatorial collective Komplot (one of nine emerging art spaces we profiled about a month ago) unites Antwerp-based students on the verge of graduating with established artists from the Brussels scene in a show that seeks to unfold the social movement of a group. And with what is one of the best group show titles we’ve seen in a while.

7. Friday 27th May: Invisible Beauty + Lee Kit opening @ SMAK, Ghent

Through restrained sophistication, Lee Kit reveals intimate elements of his childhood in a hybrid culture somewhere in-between Asia and Europe. Think paintings on kitchen towels and curtains, themed around trivial daily rituals that bring to light hints to popular culture and his vision on societal values.

8. Friday 27th May – Monday 30th May: Open Studios @ HISK, Ghent

Ghent’s Higher Institute for Fine Arts opens its doors to the public this weekend in a bid to show its graduating students’ worth. Amongst the exhibiting artists you’ll see some old acquaintances such as Kasper De Vos (who gave us a glimpse into his life) and Alejandra Hernandez (whose work we covered a couple of months ago).

9. Friday 27th May: Opening ASPHYXIE @ CAL, Charleroi

Illustrator and founder of record label Teenage Menopause Elzo Durt’s graphic universe contains artworks that breathe skateboard and punk culture, all on show this Friday in Charleroi.

11. Saturday 28th May: Underground Wave Volume 5 Release @ De Kleine Hedonist, Antwerp

The best new wave/synth-pop compilations hands down, four instalments of which have already been released and instantly sold out by the cassette-to-vinyl legendary label Walhalla Records. There’s now a fifth edition available, which calls for celebration.

13. Saturday 28th May: Circus Claus @ Les Ateliers Claus, Brussels

Krachtboer inspects present-day agriculture in the most festive way, presented by Gunther Lamoot, accompanied by The Idiots, and Kobe Desramaults’ (of In de Wulf and De Superette fame) luscious culinary skills.
