Movers and shakers: graphic designer Emil Kozak’s video

Movers and shakers: graphic designer Emil Kozak’s video

We recently published an interview with Barcelona-based graphic designer Emil Kozak. Chosen as one of three endorsers for Braun’s CruZer campaign, Emil draws, paints, illustrates, skates and surfs. What is more, he also heads his own graphic design and art direction agency, and is often called upon to inject a little pizzazz to brands in […]

Movers and shakers: graphic designer Emil Kozak

Graphic designers, if you ask us, don’t get half as much of love as they deserve. Part of that can be down to the fact that they operate on the fringes, preferring the familiarity of the backstage to the shine of the spotlight. Part of that is also down to the fact that they’re the […]

When old meets new: J.M. Weston invites Kitsuné

Collaborations are a hard thing to pull-off in the finicky and fickle world of fashion. Egos tend to get in the way, brand values get muddled and no one really is fooled. Yes, ok, we’ll buy into the ‘meeting of minds’ thing, but that’s about as far as it goes. Don’t expect us to believe […]

Getting diggy with it: our QR codes

Getting diggy with it: our QR codes

You might not have noticed it, but we took a step closer to the future in our last edition, the red album. Indeed, QR codes (those god-ugly barcodes you can see at the tail-end of some of the red album’s stories and features) were introduced to our pages, the sole purpose of which is to […]

Movers and shakers: B-boy Ronnie Abaldonado

“A lot of my transitions flow and connect fluidly like I am telling a story,” says Ronnie Abaldonado, one of the judges to this year’s Braun Battle of the Year breakdancing contest. A Filipino living in Las Vegas, Ronnie (28) has secured some of the most respected break titles around (winner of the 2007 Red […]

Oooh Wordiors, come out and play…

The indefatigable and near indestructible KKGB gang produced one of the most ambitious fashions series to have graced the magazine pages for our Rough Edges Issue. Indeed, each day of shoot was a cacophony of surreal situations, future-funky hairdos and menacing weapons. Before we show you the series in its entirety as well as a […]

Hey pretty baby, going to make you a star

We teamed with Brussels-based collective Kiss Kiss Gang Bang for our breakthrough 101. Not only did they do a great job staging and capturing the essence of ambition driven fame hungry wannabes, they even threw in some kick-ass behind the scenes videos. Below are the making-of segments of our rock band, politician and artist du […]

The unprintables – Your days are numbered

We asked Felicie to create somewhat of an alternative board game for our Morning After Issue. Here, you get the chance to download the game’s unadultured and unobstructed version (complete with an online-exclusive title), as well as an interactive ‘how to play’ guide, just to make your fun that much easier on you… To put […]

The morning after breakfast

We captured the decaying evolution of a morning after fry-up with a breakfast fit for kings having taken a turn for the worst in this day-to-day documentary of the rotten. First off, the shots we ran with in our Morning After edition… Then two behind-the-scenes ones: What Sarah – who shot the series – had […]

Waiting for The Skin Issue

Hard at work on our March edition, themed The Skin Issue (our Friday 5th March 2010), we’re on the lookout for stuff (rude boys, art history/curating/events interns, DJs submissions, etc…) and wanted to remind you of other stuff (more Morning After posts to look forward to, concert tickets to win, Tweets to follow).  Here’s a […]

A hit for a hit

Fresh from our Morning After Issue, a piece Randa wrote on the talent-altering effects going cold turkey can have on some of our favourite acts… Musical creativity and drug addiction are dark but inevitable bedfellows, but the skewed stimulation of getting fucked-up long-term tends to end in either death or dry out. So what happens […]

The unprintables – The Word On

To some, the morning’s first rolling stock means blurry eyes, out-of-pocket trips and last stop wake up calls. To others, it means the start of the daily grind, a last chance for inner peace before the routine begins. To Ulrike, it really is just a chance for morning voyeurism. Hazy, absent and unobstrusive. First off, […]

Days before The Morning After Issue

With three days to go before our first edition of the year comes out, a little treat courtesy of Sarah: three morning after shots of, as she put it, “the débris the new years eve party people left, in the city…” With a piece on how going cold turkey affects talent (put together by Randa), […]

The unprintables – The Bling Showstoppers

Some more shots we didn’t run with in our December edition, this time taken by Ulrike for our Bling Special’s Showstoppers selection. “Funny story, when we were doing the shoot, two guys from the heating company came to do a standard check, but Zoe was  almost fully naked, so I had to hide her. The unprintables – The Shelf

A photo shoot for our book page typically takes Yassin (the photographer) and Meli (the art director, and sometime reluctant model) about half a day to nail down. With the former having somewhat of a itchy finger folly and the latter a seemingly unlimited supply of ideas, we often end up with quite a selection […]

Sugar rushed, brains stormed

Three issues back to back – November, December, January – by the time we came to brainstorm the third one, we needed a mountain of sticky pastries in the middle of the table to get our poor, tired, brains kick-started. After all the attention they got for their Japanese series on our blog, we HAD […]

The making-of Maison du Word

For The Nano Issue, we commissioned architect Sophie Uhoda to build us our dream home, a utopian communal living space. The end result being so slick, we thought it useful to show you where, and how, it all started.
